74 Seaside Avenue: A Novel

I picked this up because I wanted something easy to settle into at the end of the day, the kind of book that lets you put the phone down and stay there a while. This one does that nicely. It feels built for readers who like a steady story, a familiar setting, and characters who have lived a little before the book begins. If you enjoy small-town romance with a softer pace and a second-chance feel, this is squarely in that lane.
What I like most is that it gives you comfort without feeling empty. The setting does a lot of the work, and the people in it feel like they belong to a real place instead of just standing around to deliver dialogue. That matters in a book like this. I want to feel the town around the story, not just the couple in the middle of it, and this novel gives enough of that to make me want to keep turning pages. The emotional beats are gentle, but they still land. Nothing here feels rushed just to get to the next scene.
I also appreciate that it does not ask for much from me as a reader. Some books make me work too hard when I am already tired. This one is easier in a good way. I can pick it up after dinner, read a handful of chapters, and still feel like I got somewhere. That is not a small thing. There is real value in a book that knows how to keep moving without getting loud about it.
The one thing I would mention is that the style may feel a little familiar if you read a lot of connected small-town series. That is not the same as saying it is bad. It is more that the comfort is part of the design, so if you want sharp surprises on every page, this probably is not the book for that mood. For me, that is only a minor limitation. I would rather have a story that understands its own tone than one that keeps trying to reinvent itself every few chapters.
I read books like this when I want my evening to slow down. I keep one by the chair and read a little at a time, which suits this kind of story just fine. It feels like the sort of novel you can live with for a few nights without losing the thread, and that is exactly what I want sometimes.
If you like romance that stays warm, a little nostalgic, and more interested in people than in drama for its own sake, this is an easy one to recommend. It is the kind of book I would hand to someone who wants a dependable, pleasant escape and does not mind a familiar rhythm. Not flashy. Just easy to like.
